Strain Equations

The strain equations for the various strain configurations are as follows.

Where:

GF = Gage Factor (default is 2.0)

Vr = (Vout Strained / Vs Supply Strained ) – (Vout Unstrained / Vs Supply Unstrained)

Note:The Unstrained Vout, Unstrained Vs, and GF are provided by the specific strain gage manufacturer.

In the Computed Channel strain gage setup dialog box:

Arg1 = Vout = Bridge Output Voltage

Arg2 = Bridge Excitation (Supply) Voltage (Vexcitation) – the default is 0.0 volts

Full Bridge (Bending) – Four Strain Gages in a Wheatstone Bridge Circuit

Formula: Full Bridge Bending (Arg1): e = -Vr  / GF

Half Bridge (Bending) - Two Strain Gages in a Wheatstone Bridge Circuit

Formula: Half Bridge Bending (Arg1): e = -2Vr  / GF

Quarter Bridge - One Strain Gage in a Wheatstone Bridge Circuit

Formula: Quarter Bridge Bending (Arg1): e = -4Vr  / GF(1 + 2Vr)
