Correction Setup

Enables you to perform Open/Short/Load correction to compensate for any error caused by disturbances such as stray admittances and residual impedances. This feature also allows you to select the cable length.

The correction feature supports the following two correction methods:

  1. Correction based on all frequency points. For this method, open/short corrections are performed at all measurement points throughout the entire frequency range.
  2. Correction based on user-specified frequency points. For this method, open/short/load corrections are performed at the user-specified frequency points.

The on/off settings for the Open, Short, and Load parameters determine the on/off state of both open/short correction at all frequency points and open/short/load correction at user-specified spot frequency points. Accordingly, open/short/load correction at user-specified spot frequency points can be performed only when open/short correction at all frequency points is activated. When the settings of the Open, Short, and Load parameters are ON, both open/short correction at all frequency points and open/short/load correction at user-specified spot frequency points are enabled.

Open Correction

The open correction feature compensates for any stray admittances (G, B) that may exist within the interval from the calibration plane, which is determined by the selected cable length, to the DUT connecting points. In this correction method, open correction data are collected from all 51 predetermined frequency points, regardless of the test frequency settings. At the other frequency points, correction is done using data calculated by interpolating the data collected at the 51 points.

Short Correction

The short correction feature compensates for any residual impedances (R, X) that may exist within the interval from the calibration plane, which is determined by the selected cable length, to the DUT connecting points.

Load Correction

In addition to the open/short correction features, the LCR meter provides a load correction feature that allows you to carry out, at your specified frequency points, load correction using a transfer function determined based on the relationships between a particular standard's reference values (pre-measured, known values) and the standard's actual measurements. With load correction, you can compensate for errors that cannot be compensated using open/short correction.

To specify frequency points and carry out load correction, click the "Set Spot Corrections" button and select the measurement point number (you can specify up to 201 measurement points). Then enter the desired frequency in the "Frequency" field and click "On" next to the measurement point number at the top of the dialog. For the Reference A field, enter the known value of the standard's primary parameter. For the Reference B field, enter the known value of the standard's secondary parameter. Then, click Load "On" to enable load correction on successive measurements.

Cable Length Selection

The LCR meter has four reference planes (points): the UNKNOWN terminal (0 m), the tip of the 16048A/B test lead (1 m), the tip of the 16048D test lead (2 m), and the tip of the 16048E test lead (4 m). These points serve as the basis for the measurement accuracy.

Correction Mode

When equipped with Option 301 (Scanner Interface), the LCR meter can store up to 128 sets of open/short/load correction data. In addition, it can store one set of the standard's reference value data at a specified frequency point. In multiple correction mode, you can switch among up to 128 data sets to carry out correction. Note that the correction features default to single correction mode.

Note: When you use multiple correction mode, you cannot perform open/short correction by the interpolation method (open/short correction at particular frequency points) but you must perform correction at specified frequency points. User-specified frequency points can be configured separately between single and multiple correction modes.

Set Spot Corrections

Open/short/load correction at user-specified spot frequency points are not carried out by setting FREQ field (below SPOT NO. field) to default OFF state. By entering a desired frequency in the FREQ field allocated to SPOT NO. from 1 to 201, open/short/load correction at the user-specified spot frequency is carried out. Open/short /load correction at user-specified spot frequency points takes priority over open/short correction at all frequency points when test frequency is identical with one of the user-specified spot frequency points.

Save/Load Correction Table

Click the "Save Correction Table" button (located at the bottom of the Correction Setup drop-down panel) to save the current correction table to a file for later retrieval. The correction table is stored in a proprietary format with a *.stable file extension. By default, the correction table is stored in the "My Documents" folder on your computer. For example – C:\Users\<user_name>\Documents\Keysight\BenchVue\LCR Meter\States\.
