Starting or Restarting Keysight I/O Services

The Keysight IO Libraries Suite includes several services. Normally, these services run automatically when installed and whenever you start your PC. However, in some cases, you may need to start or restart them as part of a troubleshooting or recovery procedure. If Keysight IO Libraries Suite utilities are not functioning correctly, or if instruments are not being auto-discovered, you should try starting or restarting Keysight Instrument Discovery Service (Windows and Linux) and Keysight IO Libraries Service (Windows only).

To start or restart I/O services (Windows)

  1. Close Connection Expert if it is running.

  2. Consult the documentation for your version of Windows for detailed instructions on starting or restarting Windows services. For example, on Windows, from the Start menu, click Administrative Tools (or type Services in the Search programs and files field) , then Services. In the Services dialog box, select Keysight IO Libraries Service. Click the appropriate link to start or restart the service. You will be asked whether you want to also start or restart the Keysight Instrument Discovery Service. Do so. Both services must be running for Keysight IO Libraries Suite utilities and libraries to operate correctly.

Wait 30 seconds or more after restarting services before you run Connection Expert or other Keysight IO Libraries Suite utilities.

To start or restart I/O services (Linux)

IO Libraries uses scripts to start and stop services in Linux.

  1. Close connection Expert if it is running.
  2. Open a terminal window.
  3. Type sudo bash /opt/keysight/iolibs/ds/stop-discoveryservice.sh to stop the discovery service. (You may also need to enter your password at the next command prompt.)

  4. Type sudo bash /opt/keysight/iolibs/ds/start-discoveryservice.sh to re-start the discovery service.
