This adjustment characterizes the flatness of the IF filter response. Any “unflatness” of the IF filter response can manifest itself as additional frequency response error or resolution bandwidth switching uncertainty.
To measure IF Flatness, the analyzer’s center frequency and DDC frequency are set such that the IF flatness over a 2 MHz bandwidth can be measured. This process is repeated at 12 different analyzer center frequencies, thus characterizing the IF over a 24 MHz total bandwidth. These measurements are made once in low band, at a nominal center frequency of less than 2.7 GHz, and again in high band, at a nominal center frequency of greater than 2.7 GHz.
The measured data is normalized to the measurements at the last IF’s nominal center frequency of 45 MHz. The data is then stored in the analyzer’s non-volatile memory.
