Noise Density Troubleshooting

Noise Density is tested if Option B40 (40 MHz Bandwidth) or Option B1X (140 MHz Bandwidth) are present. Both Option B40 and B1X are parallel IF paths to the Standard IF path. Noise density is the integrated noise power normalized to a 1 Hz Resolution Bandwidth. Noise density is only tested in RF Band 0 if Option MPB (RF Preselector Bypass) is NOT installed. The reason is that the RF Preselector band limits the IF Path to approximately 30 MHz.

This measurement is very similar to the DANL measurement which is performed on the Standard IF path. If the Noise Density test fails but the DANL test passes, then this suggests that excess noise is being generated in the IF path that is failing Noise Density. If Noise Density test fails and the DANL test fails, then this suggests excess noise is being generated in a component that is common to both IF paths. Please refer to the Service Guide for further details on troubleshooting the Option B40 or Option B1X paths.
