This test checks the ability of the FieldFox to lock onto a GPS signal. If the ability of the FieldFox to lock has been verified manually previous to this test, the operator may bypass the check part of this test at the first prompt.
Normal operation of this test requires a GPS signal source. When prompted to connect a GPS signal source, there are three options available:
Connect the recommended GPS antenna and then position the FieldFox in a physical location where the antenna can receive GPS signals from overhead satellites.
Connect the FieldFox to a bench top GPS signal simulator such as an E4438C or E8267D with Option 409.
Connect the FieldFox to a remote general purpose antenna that provides GPS signals.
The connector for the GPS signal is on the top of the FieldFox between the port connectors.
The FieldFox main battery should be installed and charged to at least 30% for this test. It is often necessary to relocate the FieldFox, and it should not be powered off during the test.
This test configures the FieldFox to receive and lock onto a GPS signal. The operator should not change any FieldFox settings during this test.
The test result for the GPS test is only listed in the Functional Test summary. There is no detailed test result section for this test in the test report.
