Frequency and Time-Domain Interactions

In the 89600 VSA, the interaction between the time and frequency domains starts with your selection of frequency span and number of frequency points (M). From these selections, the VSA computes how much time data must be digitized in order to produce this frequency domain result. For more details, see Understanding Time and Frequency Parameters.

To achieve more resolution in the frequency spectrum (narrower span and/or more spectral lines) more time record data will need to be acquired.

The illustration below shows how the time record length and number of points are computed from span and number of frequency points for a baseband signal.
