StarQAM (Digital Demod)

Use the Format dropdown box to choose Star-16QAM or Star-32QAM.

StarQAM signals are QAM Quadrature Amplitude Modulation signals with the constellation points arranged in concentric circles. Star 16-QAM has 16 constellation points in two concentric circles. Star 32-QAM has 32 constellation points in four concentric circles. See the image below for an example of Star-32QAM.

The radii of the outer circles are set as ratios of the inner ring (R1). There are three ring ratios R2 / R1, R3 / R1, and R4 / R1. Each circle contains eight symbol states.

Reliable Carrier Lock

This table shows the minimum Result Length and frequency offset values for reliable carrier lock for StarQAM signals:

Digital Modulation Format

Minimum Result Length (0 Hz frequency offset)

Maximum frequency offset (Result Length = 1000 symbols)

Star 16-QAM

50 symbols

4.95% symbol rate

Star 32-QAM

75 symbols

4.95% symbol rate
