About DVBS2X Super Frame (DVB-S2/S2X)

The VSA software supports automatic DVBS2X Super Frame detection of formats 5, 6, and 7. When DVBS2X Super Frame is selected as the Standard, The VSA Automatically detects MODCOD, Frame Type, and VL-SNR Signal-to-Noise Ratio Pilot configuration for each PLFrame. EVM Error vector magnitude (EVM): A quality metric in digital communication systems. See the EVM metric in the Error Summary Table topic in each demodulator for more information on how EVM is calculated for that modulation format. and decoding are performed for all detected formats, and auto-detected Super-Frame and PLFrame details are included in the Syms/Errs table. In the Frame Summary table, results are organized by Super-Frame number (FramePart column) and Super-Frame type (Allocation column).

Super Frame format 5 supports PLFrame fragmentation across multiple super frames. In this case, if the first Super Frame contains some data fragmented from the previous PLFrame, the VSA software marks that part as Unknown data as it has no way to detect its MODCOD/FrameType/VL-SNR Pilot.

DVBS2X Super Frame Autodetection Algorithm

Find SOSF (Start of Super Frame), then decode SFFI (Super Frame Format Indicator). There are 8 different Super Frame Formats (0 to 7).
If the detected super frame format is format 5 or 6 or 7, VSA will further detect all the PLFrame header information to find out all the MODCOD / Frame Type / VL-SNR Pilot configuration for each PLFrame. When the PLFrame is the last PLFrame in the current super frame, VSA will detect the end of the super frame by searching for the postamble and next SOSF.
If the detected super frame format is not fromat 5/6/7, VSA will not detect the PLFrame information, only the SOSF and SFFI can be measured, all the other parts of the super frame are marked as unknown, and VSA will continue detecting the next super frame if necessary.
After all the detection, VSA will demodulate and decode the PLFrames accordingly.
