Configurations Tab (Hardware)
The Hardware
tab contains the tools necessary to integrate and manage analyzer, source and switch hardware connected to and controlled by the VSA software. There are three types of hardware configurations: Analyzer Configurations (input data hardware/software), Source Configurations (signal sources controlled by the VSA) and Switch configurations. You use the Configuration properties to 1) create, modify, rename, and delete hardware configurations and 2) select the current measurement Analyzer Configuration. When running multiple instances of the 89600 VSA, you can lose changes to your hardware configurations since changes to hardware configurations are not synchronized across instances of the VSA. Each VSA instance will write its configuration when exiting, so the hardware configuration that persists will be the one from the instance that is closed last.

The Hardware Configurations list box provides a list (tree view format) of the current VSA , and . Selecting (highlighting) a hardware configuration item will provide addition information about that item in the Properties box. The hardware VSA IO Interface status is also shown for each VSA hardware connection. The Hardware Configurations box provides the following information:

The properties button will expand and collapse the configuration's Properties box. The Properties box provides additional information about the selected hardware configuration components. The detailed property information depends on the configuration component type; the Configuration Name properties include the name (which can also be edited), the configuration type and hardware type (real or simulated), the Logical Instrument properties include the group type, the individual HW/SW Instrument properties include the device type, address, model, slot, name, serial number, driver revision, and/or firmware revision, etc. Instruments that are discovered but unavailable because they are currently in use by other instruments (also known as subordinate instruments) will appear at the bottom of the Properties box. See About Subordinate Instruments for more information. |
parameter |
Selects the current measurement Analyzer Configuration. (The measurement Analyzer Configuration can also be selected with the parameter).Note: To select a Source Configuration, click Selecting Hardware. , see |
button |
Opens the "New Hardware Configurations" dialog to add a new analyzer, source or switch hardware configuration. |
button |
Edits the selected analyzer, source or switch configuration using the "New Hardware Configurations" dialog. You add, remove, and change logical instrument configurations and rename hardware configurations. |
button |
Deletes the selected Analyzer/Source/Switch Configuration. The Current Analyzer Configuration cannot be deleted. Only the entire Analyzer/Source/Switch configuration can be deleted. Individual components, such as, a single Logical Instrument within a multi-instrument configuration) can be modified but cannot be deleted. |
button |
Refreshes the Discover Instruments list. Attempts to re-establish IO connectivity to all hardware connected to the VSA. This will also update the Analyzer/Source/Switch Configurations list and the Possible Logical Instruments list. |
An Analyzer/Source/Switch Configuration may be listed but not available for use (indicated by a Red check mark) when the VSA hardware I/O Connection fails (the hardware may be disconnected or the power switched off). To re-establish connectivity, verify the hardware connection and click the
