(CTE) is the RMS average of the symbol-by-symbol deviation from the channel-compensated (For each symbol-time in the Common Tracking Error trace, the ideal signal's CTE magnitude is subtracted from the measured signal's CTE magnitude and the differences are RMS averaged. Since the ideal signal's CTE magnitude is 1, the calculation can be simplified to the equation shown below.
