S-SS (LTE-Advanced)

S-SS is the Secondary Synchronization signal for an downlink LTE Long Term Evolution-Advanced component carrier. The center 72 subcarriers (6 RB Resource Block wide) are allocated to S-SS Secondary Synchronization Signal, but only the center 62 subcarriers are used. The unused subcarriers (the outer five on each side) are set to zero during S-SS transmission. S-SS is not present in an uplink frame.

For FDD Frequency Division Duplex: A duplex scheme in which uplink and downlink transmissions use different frequencies but are typically simultaneous., S-SS is present in the second-to-last symbol of slot 0 and 11 in every frame.

For TDD Time Division Duplex: A duplexing technique dividing a radio channel in time to allow downlink operation during part of the frame period and uplink operation in the remainder of the frame period., S-SS is present in the last symbol of slots 1 and 11 in every frame.

S-SS is transmitted as a BPSK Binary phase shift keying - A type of phase modulation using 2 distinct carrier phases to signal ones and zeros. sequence.

P-SS Primary Synchronization Signal and S-SS can be transmitted on a single C-RS Cell-specific RS antenna port or all of them.
