Installing the License in a PXB Baseband Generator and Channel Emulator

Before installing the license file, save a backup copy in a safe place.

Two methods of installing the license are described below.

Using a USB Storage Device (Preferred Method)

You can manually install the license in the PXB using a USB storage device.

  1. Copy the license file to a USB storage device. The license file is attached to the email message you received when you redeemed your license.

  2. Insert the storage device into a USB port on the front panel of the PXB.

  3. Wait a few seconds for the license to be copied to the hard drive. A popup message from Keysight License Manager (KLM) appears on the PXB front panel that shows the license model number and version with the following message: "Successful License Installation."

  4. Remove the USB storage device.

Using Keysight License Manager on a PC Connected to the PXB

If a USB storage device is not available, you can install the license using the Keysight License Manager (KLM) on a PC that is connected to the PXB through a LAN connection. This method requires that the PXB and PC have the same version of the Keysight License Manager installed.

  1. Verify that the same version of the Keysight License Manager resides on both the PXB and the PC.

    1. Click Start > All Programs > Keysight > Keysight License Manager.

    2. Click Help > About and read the software revision number. If the revisions are different, upgrade either or both. Get the latest revision of KLM from http://www.keysight.com/find/licensemanager.

  2. Establish a LAN connection between the PC running the Keysight License Manager software and the PXB. For information on connecting or configuring the PC or PXB, see Equipment Setup and Connection.

  3. Copy the license file to the hard drive on your PC. The license file has a .lic extension, and is attached to the email message you received when you redeemed your license.

  4. Obtain the IP address of your PXB. In the PXB user interface, click System > Product Information and view the Machine Name row.

  5. On your PC, start the Keysight License Manager software. Click Start > All Programs > Keysight License Manager > Keysight License Manager.

  6. In the Keysight License Manager main window, click File > Connect... to open the Connect to host system(s) dialog box.

  7. In the Connect to host system: field, enter the IP address (obtained in Step 4) of the PXB.

  8. Click OK. The instrument address and its installed licenses appear in the tree view (left pane). The right pane displays additional information for each license. (See the Closeddrop-down figure.)

If you are unable to connect to the PXB or if you receive an error message when trying to connect, temporarily disable the Windows Firewall on the PXB. Click Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Off.

  9. Click File > Install License(s)... to open the Install License File(s) dialog box.

  10. Use the Install License File(s) dialog box to navigate to the location where you placed the license file (*.lic) in Step 3.

  11. Select the desired license file and click Open.

  12. Wait for the license to appear in the Installed Licenses list. This indicates that the license has been successfully installed in the PXB. A popup message from KLM also appears on the PXB front panel, displaying the license model number and version with the following message: "Successful License Installation."

Refer to the Keysight License Manager online help for more information about using the software.
