GLONASS, Global Navigation Satellite System, is a radio-based satellite navigation system operated for the Russian government. It's currently the only alternative navigational system in operation with global coverage and of similar precision.By October 2011, the full orbital constellation of 24 satellites was restored, orbiting in 3 planes, enabling full global coverage.
The current GLONASS-M satellites transmit signals on one of 14 frequencies (FDMA), all with the same PRN code. GLONASS satellites transmit two types of signal: a standard precision (SP) signal and an obfuscated high precision (HP) signal.
The Standard precision (SP) signals transmitted around 1602 MHz (L1), 562.5 kHz apart (~1598-1605 MHz); while the SP signal also broadcasts in L2 band.
High precision (HP) signals transmitted around 1246 MHz (L2), 437.5 kHz apart (~1242-1252 MHz)
For the new GLONASS-K1 satellites, CDMA signals will also be transmited similar to GPS and Galileo.
