IEEE 802.15.4 SUN Introduction

SUN PHYs defined in IEEE standard 802.15.4 addresses requirements for low-data-rate, wireless, smart metering utility network.

Smart metering utility network (SUN) enable multiple applications to operate over shared network resources, providing monitoring and control of a utility system. SUN devices are designed to operate in very large-scale, low-power wireless applications and often require using the maximum power available under application regulations in order to provide long-range, point-to-point connections.

Three physical layers are defined in the standard:

N7610C Signal Studio for IoT software enables you to create waveform files to support testing of components and receivers based on IEEE 802.15.4 standard for smart utility networks.

Currently, the following 802.15.4 SUN PHYs are supported by the software:

Operating Frequency Range

IEEE standard 802.15.4-2015 defines multiple data rates in bands ranging from 169 MHz to 2450 MHz.
