Interface Problems

This section will help you verify GPIB and LAN interface problems.

It is recommended that you consult the Keysight Signal Studio Software Installation Guide for more information on configuring and troubleshooting the interface.

GPIB Interface Problems

  1. Ensure that the GPIB cables are securely attached to the PC, signal generator, and spectrum/signal analyzer. Ensure that the cables and instrument connectors are not damaged.

  2. Click Connect in the Pulse Building Menu area of the software and select Signal Generator. Verify that the GPIB address entered in the Connect to Signal Generator window is the same as the GPIB address used by your signal generator.

  3. Click Connect in the Pulse Building Menu area of the software and select Spectrum Analyzer. Verify that the GPIB address entered in the Connect to Spectrum Analyzer window is the same as the GPIB address used by your spectrum/signal analyzer.

NOTE: If you have multiple GPIB boards installed, verify which board is selected.

  4. Review the GPIB setup sections in the Keysight Signal Studio Software Installation Guide.

LAN Interface Problems

  1. Check all LAN cable connections and make sure you are connected to the LAN. The LAN connector you are using may not be active. Check the rear panel of the signal generator and spectrum/signal analyzer for flashing green or yellow lights which indicate LAN activity. Do not use a cross-over LAN cable.

  2. Click Connect in the Pulse Building Menu area of the software and select Signal Generator. Verify that the TCP/IP address entered in the Connect to Signal Generator window is the same as the TCP/IP address used by your signal generator.

  3. Click Connect in the Pulse Building Menu area of the software and select Spectrum Analyzer. Verify that the TCP/IP address entered in the Connect to Spectrum Analyzer window is the same as the TCP/IP address used by your spectrum/signal analyzer.

  4. Run the ping program:

    1. From the computer, go to Start > Run, type command then click OK.

    2. At the C:\> prompt, type ping <IP address>, where <IP address> is the signal generator's IP address or hostname.

    3. If the signal generator does not respond, contact your IP department.

    4. Type exit in the command prompt window then press Enter

  5. For more information on the 'ping' program, or for LAN setup information, refer to the Keysight Signal Studio Software Installation Guide.

The VI_ERROR_ALLOC error indicates that an attempt was made to connect to a TCP/IP address that is currently in use by another application.
