Connection Expert Message LOG
The IO Libraries Message log shows useful information, such as new instruments discovered, instruments removed (gone offline), error conditions, and more. Up to 2000 messages are retained until you clear the message area or restart Connection Expert, so this area also serves as a history of your session. (If more than 2000 messages are generated during your session, the message area shows the most recent 2000 messages.)
The Message Log is available by clicking 
and then selecting Message Log... from the Settings and Tools menu (Linux) or from the Tools submenu (Windows). Here is an example message log:
The total number of messages is indicated by the number in the lower left corner of the Message Log window.
Messages
The main part of the message area shows a history of messages that have been posted since you either started Connection Expert or since you cleared the message area. Some of the more common messages you may see include.
- User interface session started – This message is posted when Connection Expert starts.
- New connection – A connection has been detected by Connection Expert or has been manually added; it may be a new instrument, or a new connection (a different protocol or interface connection) to an instrument already listed. This connection will be shown in the Instruments view once it has been detected.
- Deleted connection – A connection has gone away, typically because the instrument or interface was disconnected, but sometimes due to a malfunction. This connection will no longer be shown in the Instruments view once it has been removed.
- Rescan requested – A user has clicked Rescan in the Instruments view and the rescan is beginning.
- Rescan complete – The Discovery Service has polled all available interfaces to return their instrument information. However, information may still be returned and displayed for some time after the Rescan complete message has been displayed.
These messages are not logged or stored in any file. They are available for your reference until you close Connection Expert or clear the message area.
