Remote IO Server Software Overview

This section contains information specific to the Windows product.

The Remote IO Server and remote instrument features are a powerful benefit of the Keysight IO Libraries Suite. The Remote IO Server, when running on a remote (server) PC, allows you to access and control instruments connected to that remote PC from your local (client) PC. There are several benefits of connecting to the instrument using the Remote IO Server capability.  It is sometimes necessary to access a test instrument from two places, such as on the shop floor and from your desk. If you configure this instrument on a remote interface, you can use the same addressing method and test program code from either PC.

Configuring the Remote IO Server

You can configure the Remote IO Server by running Connection Expert on the remote PC. Select , then Settings, then Remote IO Server options.

When you start the Remote IO Server from Keysight Connection Expert or set it up to start automatically on PC startup, the Remote IO Server is started from the Keysight IO Libraries Service under the SYSTEM user. When started in this mode, the server runs even when no users are logged in, and its console window is not visible. This is the normal way of starting the Remote IO Server.

When started from C:\Program Files\Keysight\IO Libraries Suite\bin\siclland.exe, the Remote IO Server is launched in the user's session. In this case, the server's console window is visible and the server will quit when the user logs out. This method is used primarily for debugging.

Starting and Stopping the Remote IO Server

To start or stop the Remote IO Server, open Connection Expert on the remote PC and select , then Settings, then Remote IO Server options, then select or clear Enable Remote IO Server. Click OK to apply. The Remote IO Server window is displayed on the remote PC whenever the Remote IO Server is running. The Remote IO Server displays messages concerning remote I/O operations. Closing the Remote IO Server window stops the Remote IO Server software.

If the SICL interface ID or logical unit of an interface is changed on the remote PC while the Remote IO Server is running on the remote PC, that interface cannot be accessed remotely until the Remote IO Server is stopped and re-started.
