Welcome to Keysight IO Monitor Classic
IO Monitor Classic is a utility that traces messages generated by Keysight's IO Libraries:
- VISA
- SICL
- VISA COM
- IVI-COM instrument drivers released after September 18, 2010
- Internal Processes (messages generated during the Discovery process)
These I/O and instrument driver messages can be used to analyze communication between test & measurement instruments and the controller PC.
IO Monitor Classic Quick Start
If you have one or more instruments connected to your PC and these instruments are recognized in Keysight's Connection Expert Classic, you can begin using IO Monitor Classic in just a few simple steps:
- Start IO Monitor Classic. From the Keysight IO Control icon, select Utilities > IO Monitor Classic.
- On the IO Monitor Classic screen, select the Start Capturing Messages button.
- Click the Refresh button in Connection Expert Classic. Watch as the I/O messages generated by the refresh operation appear on the IO Monitor Classic display.
- When finished, click the Stop Capturing Messages button on the IO Monitor Classic display.
IO Monitor Classic is that easy to use. Click a link below to learn about other features that make IO Monitor Classic an excellent utility for monitoring and troubleshooting instrument I/O in your test and measurement programs.
Important Considerations
- IO Monitor Classic is not a performance measuring tool, because the IO Monitor Classic itself affects performance.
- Only one session of IO Monitor Classic can run at any time per machine.
- IO Monitor Classic should only be used when one user is logged in.
- When monitoring for long periods of time when message volume is high, IO Monitor Classic may lose messages.
- When monitoring SICL and/or SICL Detail, IO Monitor may monitor, display, and/or log many messages from the Keysight Instrument Discovery Service. To reduce the number of messages, turn off the SICL and SICL Detail options. See Changing IO Monitor Classic Settings for details.
Keysight IO Libraries Suite Documentation
You can view additional documentation for the Keysight IO Libraries Suite by selecting Documentation from the IO Control

in the taskbar; typically bottom right in Windows and upper right in Linux) or from within each program and utility that has help.
