Displayed Average Noise Level (DANL) tests the average of the displayed noise. To measure DANL, the signal analyzer’s input is terminated with a 50 ohm load. The analyzer is placed in zero span, and the trace data is averaged by summing all 1000 trace points and dividing by 1000. The resulting number is normalized to 0 dB input attenuation by subtracting out the attenuation setting. The result is then normalized to 1 Hz Radiant Bandwidth (RBW) by subtracting out the value of 10 x LOG(RBW). If the DUT has the preamp option, additional testing is performed with the preamp on.
