User Profile Editor (DOCSIS 4.0 Downstream)
The
sets Profile IDs and Modulation Assignments in a user-friendly editor. For each profile (Profiles A-P = 0-15 in the Profile IDs field, NCP = 255), a corresponding drop-down selects a modulation format (see below). Click
to apply the changes to the Profile IDs and Modulation Assignments fields. The Profile No# combo-box is used to select the specified profile (A~P, or NCP), and a label on the right with parentheses will show the corresponding profile index (Profiles A-P = 0-15, NCP = 255).
The Profile Status radio button is used to set whether the selected profile is used or not. For profile A and profile NCP, the status is always On, and for profile B~P, the default status is Off.
The Modulation group box is used to edit the profile with all subcarriers/modulation mapping. It is disabled when the profile status is set to Off.
The data grid in the Modulation group box contains the Start Sub-carrier, End Sub-carrier, and Step columns, which are used to select the subcarriers in the specified profile. The Mod format column is used to assign the modulation format for specified subcarriers in the same row (default is UNDEFINED).
For the NCP profile, the modulation format choices are limited to QPSK, 16-QAM and 64-QAM.

The table below shows the modulation format (QAM) values assigned in the User Profile Editor compared to the Number of Bits values displayed in the Format tab's Modulation Assignments window.
QAM Value |
Number of Bits |
---|---|
ZBL | 0 |
2 (BPSK) | 1 |
4 (QPSK) | 2 |
16 | 4 |
64 | 6 |
128 | 7 |
256 | 8 |
512 | 9 |
1024 | 10 |
2048 | 11 |
4096 | 12 |
8192 | 13 |
16384 | 14 |
BER analysis is not supported for for 8192-QAM and 16384-QAM modulation. In Manual mode, if 8192-QAM or 16384-QAM modulation is used in a profile, uncheck (disable) the BER Analysis radio button to avoid a warning message and validation process failure.
There are five buttons at the bottom of the Modulation group box that can be used to insert a row, delete a row, delete all rows, save the configuration to a .txt file or recall the configuration from a .txt file. The Apply button will update the edited profile parameters to Format tab when clicked.
