Starting and Stopping a Measurement

Restart is available from the Control menu or as a button in the Control toolbar.
Pause/Single is available from the Control menu or as a button, in the Control toolbar.
Stop is available only from the Control menu.

Clicking Restart clears existing data and starts a new measurement. Clicking Stop stops the current measurement and clears existing data.

If the VSA is already making a measurement, clicking Restart clears all measurement data from the VSA's buffers and starts the measurement over again. This differs from the action of Pause/Single, which does not clear the buffers.

The measurement control buttons in the toolbar or in the Control menu only apply to the selected measurement. To start or pause multiple measurements, use the buttons on the Measurements dialog.

Operation With Single Sweep

If Single sweep is selected (Control > Sweep), then clicking Restart clears measurement data and performs a single sweep. To initiate a measurement without clearing measurement data, click Pause/Single.

Operation With Trigger

Clicking Restart does not provide a trigger signal. To enable triggering, click Input > Trigger and select an appropriate trigger option from the dialog box.

Operation With Averaged Measurements

The operation of Restart remains the same for averaged measurements. If the averaged measurement is collecting averages, clicking Restart starts a new averaged measurement, beginning with the first average. For information about averaging behavior when pausing/single-stepping the measurement, see Pausing and Single-Stepping a Measurement.
