Compensate Offset enables or disables the internal adjustment in the timing of the symbol clock.
When analyzing a Pre-5G signal, the VSA software estimates the actual symbol clock frequency and compares it to the System Sample Frequency property. The ratio difference in clock frequency is reported on the Summary trace as Symbol Clock Error.
When enabled, it estimates the symbol clock error, then internally adjusts the Pre-5G system sample clock to match the estimate, resulting in generally smaller EVM Error vector magnitude (EVM): A quality metric in digital communication systems.
