ESA Dual Channel Measurement Setup

With 89600 software, two ESAs can be used to make 2-channel measurements. This system combines the Keysight 89600 VSA software and two ESA series spectrum analyzers. The 89600 software runs on a PC and connects to the ESAs via GPIB or LAN Local Area Network: A communications network that serves users within a local geographical area, typically over distances of around 100m. Wireless LANs use wireless communicaitons to network devices so there is no need for data cabling. interface. The ESAs are the measurement hardware and are configured as the ADC Analog-to-Digital Converter modules in the 89600 VSA Hardware Setup properties.

One ESA is set up as the primary and the other as the secondary for this configuration. Connect the Trigger out connector from the primary ESA to the Ext Trig In connector on the secondary ESA. Connect the 10 MHz Megahertz: A unit of frequency equal to one million hertz or cycles per second. Out connector from the primary ESA to the Ext Ref In connector on the secondary ESA.

Setup an Analyzer Configuration:

  1. Open the New Hardware Configuration dialog box (Utilities > Hardware > Configurations > Add button ).

  2. Select the ESA to use from the list of Possible Logical Instruments and drag to the Configuration window or click the arrow button. This will be the primary ESA.

If the ESA is not listed, the 89600 VSA is not communicating with it. Make sure the ESA is turned on and connected to the VSA. Run Connection Expert in the Keysight I/O Libraries Suite to verify the connection.

  3. Repeat step 2 for the second ESA.

  4. In step 2 of the New Hardware Configuration dialog box, select the specific ESA for each Logical Instrument in this Analyzer Configuration.
  5. In step 3, name the configuration. Click Ok.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select this Analyzer Configuration as the Current Analyzer Configuration in the Configurations tab.

Connect cables as shown in the following illustration. Note that the frequency reference and optional trigger signal must be connected to the primary ESA.
