Embedded PC Operation (Keysight X-Series Analyzers)

In the embedded PC operating mode, the 89600 VSA software is run in the Keysight X-Series Signal Analyzer using it's internal Windows based operating system.  The 89600 software is started by starting the 89601 VSA mode. This topic describes how to install and use the 89600 VSA software running in an Keysight X-Series Signal Analyzer.

Introduction

Review this information before starting the 89600 software. This topic provides general installation and operational information necessary to use the 89600 VSA software running in an Keysight X-Series Signal Analyzer.

Using a Mouse and Keyboard (recommended)

The 89600 VSA is a Windows application that utilizes a typical Windows interface that incorporates menu and toolbar items to access and control the VSA functionality including the integrated online help. Therefore, it is recommended that an external mouse and keyboard be used to operate the 89600 VSA software, (only a USB mouse/keyboard interface is supported on the Keysight X-Series Signal Analyzers):

Front-Panel Hardkey Control

Only a limited set of hardkeys will be available when the 89600 VSA is running.  Only the following hardkeys are functional:

Using the Online Help

An external mouse and keyboard are recommended when using the 89600 VSA online help. For information on how to use the 89600 VSA online help system, see Using Online Help (Embedded Configuration).

Embedded Installation and Setup Procedure

Review the "Introduction" information above before proceeding with the procedure.

The 89600 VSA software comes pre-installed and configured to run in the Keysight X-Series Signal Analyzer.  If it has not been removed, proceed with the next step.  Otherwise, see the chapter "Installing 89600 Software" in the Software Installation Guide.

Running the 89600 VSA Software

Review the "Introduction" information before proceeding with the procedure.

  1. Start the 89600 VSA Software. The VSA is started by selecting the 89601 VSA mode: Press Mode hardkey  > 89601 VSA softkey.

Selecting the 89601 VSA mode will open the Keysight 89600 VSA Software startup window. The 89600 VSA application has not yet started. The startup window provides instructions on how to connect an external mouse and keyboard (recommended) and instructions to start and stop the 89600 VSA Software.

It is recommended that an external mouse and keyboard be used to operate the VSA, see the preceding "Introduction" section for more information.

  2. Start the 89600 VSA Software:
  3. Press the Start softkey.

  4. License the Software.

(This step is only required if the 89600 VSA Software is not licensed. See About Installation and Licensing.)

  5. Exiting the VSA.

To exit or close the VSA, select File > Exit or close the 89601 VSA window.

Mode hardkey: Selecting the Mode hardkey or starting a different mode does not close or exit a running 89600 VSA application. When the mode hardkey is pressed, the 89600 VSA application window is minimized. When a different mode is started, the 89600 VSA measurement is paused and disconnected. To restart the 89600 VSA measurement, select the 89601 VSA mode. The VSA will not go through the software initialization/startup process and analyzer will be configured to the pre-disconnect state.

Using the Online Help

It is recommended that a mouse and keyboard be connected and used to navigate the online help since it is easier than using only the front-panel navigation hardkeys. To learn how to use the 89600 VSA online help running in an Keysight X-Series Signal Analyzer, see Using Online Help (Embedded Configuration).
