How do CAT and NA Modes Differ |
CAT (Cable and Antenna Test) and NA (Network Analyzer) Modes are similar. Both can perform 1-port and 2-port measurements. The following are the main differences between CAT Mode and NA Mode:
NA Mode is capable of measuring and displaying phase information. Phase information is beneficial for component verification. Phase information is available in the following display formats: Phase, Smith Chart, Polar, and Group Delay. Learn more about Display Formats.
NA Mode has a selectable IF Bandwidth. In CAT (and VVM) Modes, the IF BW is fixed at 30 kHz. Reducing the IF BW in NA Mode lowers the noise floor and provides increased dynamic range. It also slows the sweep time.
On the N9923A with Opt 122, NA Mode can make forward and reverse measurements. CAT Mode measures in the forward direction ONLY.
