Opt.003 TE01delta Method

The TE01delta dielectric resonators are circular-cylindrical cavities from QWED. These resonators provide very precise complex permittivity measurements of bulk low loss disc or cylinder shape dielectric ceramics. These resonators also allow thermal coefficients of permittivity and the dielectric loss tangent to be measured.

When Resonant Cavity Methods (Opt. 003) is selected from the Measurement Launcher, the following dialog appears:

  1. Select TE01delta.

  2. Navigate and select the Permittivity.exe file provided by QWED (manufacturer of this cavity) for the permittivity calculation.

Note: QWED provides five files for calculation: COEF, Frequency.exe, INIDAT, Premittivity.exe, and results. These five files need to be placed in the same folder which has read and write access.

  1. After selecting the file, the following dialog appears:

  1. Enter the Temperature, sample's External Diameter, Internal Diameter, and Height.

  2. Click on the Set Range button. The following dialog appears:

  1. Set the Estimated er and Estimated loss tangent then click the Calculate button. This provides an estimated center frequency. However, the PNA is still required to verify whether this frequency has resonance or not. If not, determine which resonant frequency to use and enter this value in the Center Frequency (GHz) text box.

  2. When the center frequency has been determined, click on the OK button.

  3. Click on the Measure button to perform the measurement. If the resonant frequency determined in Step 6 is correct, the correct permittivity value will be displayed.
