Introduction of AMX

Overview

The Keysight Automated Measurement Expert (AMX) is a smart software solution for automated multiport S-parameter measurements with the Vector Network Analyzers. Inheriting the proven frontend/backend structure from the conventional Measurement Wizard Assistant software, the AMX provides an easy and efficient test solution for multiport RF components such as filter modules, switch modules, and multiport interconnects. In addition, the AMX has evolved to offer higher throughput with multisite parallel testing and more flexibility to adapt to your future test needs

See brochure for more information about overview

The software consists of two main applications – front end and back end application.

Front end application

S94701A Automated Measurement eXpert (AMX), test plan builder

The front-end application allows you to define the test setup and sequence for multi port measurement. Then, it generates a test plan file which includes all the measurement parameters.  The test plan file is recalled by the Back end application which controls instruments, switch and DUT setup.

Back end application

The Test Automation Platform (TAP) is used as back-end application. It is another independent software from AMX which is provided as KS 8400A Test Automation Platform Developer’s System. See http://www.keysight.com/find/TAP for more detail.

The TAP is a test sequencer which can execute the measurement steps and do the pass/fail tests according to the test plan defined by the Front end application. To use the test plan created by Front end application, AMX plug-in is required.

The TAP with AMX plug-in can send the commands to instrument through its instrument application, such as VNA application.

Hence, the back end application consists of the following software.

TAP plug-in

TAP plug-in is required in order to control your DUT and switch.  Sample plug-in files are available in AMX software.

Licenses

AMX software can work as a different role depending on the installed license.

When AMX software is installed with the license of S94701A, it works as the Front end application. When it is installed with the license of S94702A, it works as AMX plug-in for the Back-end application. See Installation for the detailed procedure.

The TAP application also requires the KS8400A Test Automation Platform Developer’s System product license.
