The N5110B Baseband Studio for waveform capture and playback software enables you to capture and playback (stream) digital IQ baseband data with an unprecedented combination of speed and depth. To achieve this new level of performance, the capture and playback software takes advantage of the speed and versatility of the N5102A digital signal interface module and the N5101A Baseband Studio PCI card with 2 GB DRAM. Additionally, you can analyze your captured IQ data with the Agilent 89600A VSA software or save the data to your PC's hard disk for later analysis or playback.
One of the key features of the Baseband Studio for waveform capture and playback solution is its ability to perform capture and playback in a single package. With a few mouse clicks, you can capture waveform data, analyze the data, save to a PC file, change direction, and send the data back through the same hardware path.
Because of the speed and memory depth of the Baseband Studio hardware, Baseband Studio for capture and playback can be used to verify communication receiver, component or subsystem designs early in the development process. You can do this by capturing or creating waveform data and saving it to a file. Creating waveform data is not described in this help document; however, you can create waveform data files using design tools such as Agilent’s Advanced Design System (ADS) and MATLAB®, or a general-purpose language such as Visual Basic or C.
The Baseband Studio for waveform capture and playback software enables you to:
capture or playback up to 512 Msamples (2GB) through N5102A at up to 200 MSa/s (with Option 134 and N5101A-022 DRAM)
capture or playback greater than 512 Msamples of IQ data at lower rates (performance depends on PC hardware)
playback RF or analog IQ signals through ESG/PSG signal generators at up to 100 MSa/s
interface with the Agilent 89600 VSA software for viewing captured waveform characteristics
customize the IQ data format to match the device under test
use markers and triggering with capture and playback
remotely control ESG/PSG signal generators and N5101A/N5102A Baseband Studio hardware through the software's user interface
N5110B Baseband Studio for waveform capture and playback has two direction options and three speed options. You can choose one or both direction options. You only need to choose one of the speed options; the faster options are capable of streaming at lower rates as well.

Baseband Studio for waveform capture and playback has a variety of uses. Some common applications are listed below:
Testing baseband modems requires a reliable digital input signal. With Baseband Studio for waveform capture and playback, you can use any waveform file created using MatLab, ADS, or any programming language, and send the data directly to the modem's digital inputs. Conversely, you can capture data directly from a modem's digital outputs and analyze it using the Agilent 89600 VSA software or save it to your PC's hard disk for playback or later analysis.
When specifying hybrid components in broadband designs, it is important to know the characteristics of the components with actual broadband signals applied, not just sine waves. Using Baseband Studio for waveform capture and playback, you can send known digital broadband signals to DACs or capture digital broadband from ADCs to characterize components beyond manufacturers' specifications.
Pre-distortion loop calibration requires perfect digital signals and several iterations of testing. Using Baseband Studio for waveform capture and playback, you have a direct path from your PC to your DUT's digital pre-distortion circuitry, so you can download pre-distortion feedback signals as fast as you can create them.
