Select a command from the displayed menus for a description of the command.

File

New sets the software to its initial state (one W-CDMA downlink carrier configured with TestModel1 with 64 DPCH channels) using the current hardware configuration. The window name changes to Untitled. Rename and save the new setup as a settings (.scp) file (saving only the software parameters), or as a Quick Setup (saving the current hardware and software parameters).

Open... opens a saved settings (.scp) file. Opening a settings file configures only the waveform data parameters for use with the currently selected hardware. To use a settings file with a different hardware configuration, select Change Hardware Settings, or Run System Configuration Wizard to configure new hardware. 

Use Quick Setups to open a saved settings file that includes the hardware connection and software settings.

Save As... saves only waveform data settings to a specified settings (.scp) file. Settings files do not contain the hardware configuration data. To save a settings file with a specific hardware configuration, select Change Hardware Settings, or Run System Configuration Wizard to configure new hardware. When a file is saved it is added to the top of the Most Recently Used Files list. 

Use Quick Setups to save the current hardware configuration with your waveform setup.

Export Waveform Data... saves an encrypted waveform file (with a .wfm file extension) to your PC. This waveform can then be downloaded and played in other licensed instruments or ADS design libraries. If a waveform is configured, but has not been generated, this selection also generates the waveform. 

Refer to your signal generator's Programming Guide or the PXB/EXT's online help for information about downloading waveform files to your instruments.

Most Recently Used Files displays the four most recent settings files that were either opened with Open... or saved with Save as.... The settings file used most recently is added to the top of the list. Deleting a settings file does not immediately remove it from the list. Selecting a deleted settings file displays an error then removes the file from the list.

Exit stops and closes the software. If you made any waveform setup changes, a dialog box is displayed asking if you want to save the changes as a quick setup before exiting. The close button performs the same function.

Control

Generate and Download enables you to generate and download a waveform to the hardware.   

Generate enablesyou to generate a waveform. Use to check for waveform errors before downloading or exporting the waveform.

Update Hardware Settings sends the current hardware configuration to the connected instrument. If the configuration is not received by the instrument, an error message describing the problem appears.

System

Change Hardware Connections displays a list of saved hardware connections. This menu choice opens the System Configuration wizard, where you can select a previously saved hardware configuration, or configure and save a new hardware setup.

Run System Configuration Wizard enables you to configure your system component connections and save the hardware configuration for later use. Use Run System Configuration wizard to set up a new instrument connection, or use Quick Setups to save and change between complete setups that include the hardware connection and software settings.

You need to choose a hardware configuration from the list and follow the steps to continue:

• ESG/PSG/MXG + Internal Arb

  To download a waveform to the MXG/ESG/PSG Signal Generator, perform the following procedure:

  1. Set up the desired waveform parameters.

  2. Click the Generate and Download button. The Export Waveform dialog is displayed.

  3. Provide a name for the waveform file (.wfm) and click Save. The default location for the file is the My Documents folder. The logic analyzer requires the waveform file to be in this location.

  After you complete steps 1 to 3, the waveform is ready to be played in the logic analyzer.

• PXB

  To download a waveform to the Agilent N5106A PXB, perform the following procedure:

  1. Set up the desired waveform parameters.

  2. Click the Generate and Download button. The Export Waveform dialog is displayed.

  3. Provide a name for the waveform file (.wfm) and click Save. The default location for the file is the My Documents folder. The logic analyzer requires the waveform file to be in this location.

  After you complete steps 1 to 3, the waveform is ready to be played in the modular signal generator.

Playback

Choose a hardware configuration from the list and follow the steps to continue:

• MXG/ESG/PSG Signal Generator

  To download a waveform to the MXG/ESG/PSG Signal Generator, perform the following procedure:

  1. Set up the desired waveform parameters.

  2. Click the Generate and Download button. The Export Waveform dialog is displayed.

  3. Provide a name for the waveform file (.wfm) and click Save. The default location for the file is the My Documents folder. The logic analyzer requires the waveform file to be in this location.

  After you complete steps 1 to 3, the waveform is ready to be played in the logic analyzer.

• Agilent N5106A PXB Baseband Generator and Channel Emulator

  If the software displays an error message when you attempt to download a waveform to the PXB, see Instrument Problems in the Troubleshooting section.

  To download a waveform to the Agilent N5106A PXB, perform the following procedure:

  1. On the PXB, set up and load a configuration with the appropriate capabilities for the waveform you intend to play. The configuration must include at least one baseband generator (BBG). Refer to the PXB online documentation.

  2. Start Signal Studio and connect to the PXB using the Configuration Wizard. If you are running the Signal Studio software on the PXB, use “localhost” in the Hostname/IP Address field in Step 4 of the System Configuration Wizard. If you are running Signal Studio on a PC connected to the PXB, use the IP address or Machine Name (hostname) of the PXB in the Hostname/IP Address field. To find the PXB’s Machine Name (hostname) or IP address click System > Product Information in the PXB user interface.

  3. Set up waveform parameters in Signal Studio. Make sure you enter a name in the Waveform Name cell in the Waveform Setup node. This name identifies the waveform on the PXB.

  4. Click the Generate and Download button. The default location for the waveform file in the PXB is D:\Waveforms\ChannelN.

  5. On the PXB, click Load Waveforms and select the waveform file with the Waveform Name from Step 3.

  6. Click Download to download the waveform to the BBG.

  7. On the PXB, click Play to play the waveform.

• Keysight E6607 EXT Wireless Communications Test Set

  To avoid causing the EXT to timeout during the download process,.verify the EXT's triggering mode is set to Free Run.

  If the software displays an error message when you attempt to download a waveform to the EXT see Instrument Problems in the Troubleshooting section.

  To download a waveform to the Keysight E6607 perform the following procedure:

  1. On the EXT set up and load a configuration with the appropriate capabilities for the waveform you intend to play. Refer to the EXT online documentation. 

  2. Start Signal Studio and connect to the EXT using the Configuration Wizard. If you are running the Signal Studio software on the EXT, use “localhost” in the Hostname/IP Address field in Step 4 of the System Configuration Wizard. If you are running Signal Studio on a PC connected to the EXT, use the IP address or hostname of the EXT in the Hostname/IP Address field. To find the EXT's hostname or IP address click System > Product Information in the EXT user interface.

  3. Set up waveform parameters in Signal Studio. Make sure you enter a name in the Waveform Name cell in the Waveform Setup node. This name identifies the waveform on the EXT.

  4. Click the Generate and Download button. The default location for the waveform file in the EXT is D:\NVARB.

• Keysight M9381A PXIe Vector Signal Generator

  To download a waveform to the Keysight M9381A PXIe Vector Signal Generator, perform the following procedure:

  1. Set up the desired waveform parameters.

  2. Click the Generate and Download button. The Export Waveform dialog is displayed.

  3. Provide a name for the waveform file (.wfm) and click Save. The default location for the file is the My Documents folder. The logic analyzer requires the waveform file to be in this location.

  After you complete steps 1 to 3, the waveform is ready to be played in the modular signal generator.

Tools

Status Window enables you to turn the Status Window on or off.  

Waveform Generation Log works with only the Adv W-CDMA/HSDPA DL Rel 6 carrier, and creates a transport layer information summary log for the P-CCPCH, PICH, and the HS-SCCH.

To view the Waveform Generation Log:

1. Open the Waveform Generation Log.

2. Click the Generate Waveform button to generate the channel information summary.

Options lets you enable or disable the welcome dialog display.

Help

Contents opens the Help system and displays the table of contents.

F1 opens the Help system and displays the table of contents.

Search opens the Help system and displays the search utility.

API Reference opens a Help system for the API programming commands and their descriptions.

Software License Terms displays a description of the licensing terms agreement for Keysight's Signal Studio software.

Keysight Signal Studio Website opens a webpage of all the Signal Studio products and their available options.

About displays the version and release date of the software.
