The power distribution of a composite multi-carrier signal depends on a number of factors, including the RF carrier phase alignment and the data alignment between carriers. The correct settings for component test depend on how the component will be used in actual operation.
It is generally recommended that a small data offset (for example, 10 symbols) is used between carriers. This can be set in the Continuous Pattern node, as shown below. The continuous pattern setting is the correct one to use for component test. It ensures that the modulation is changing throughout the GSM/EDGE frame, and enables you to quickly verify the response to different modulation, spectrum, and amplitude conditions.
An RF Initial Phase offset of 0 degrees for all carriers maintains consistency with the E4438C ESG, N5172B EXG, and N5182B MXG signal generator. The peak/average can be reduced by introducing a random phase difference between the carriers. The Initial Phase can be adjusted in the Carrier node, as shown below.
