LAN Communication Failure

Problem:

Connection Expert cannot successfully verify a device connected via LAN (Ethernet).

Probable Cause:

There are several possible causes for this failure. They fall into two categories:

  1. Physical connectivity failure.

  2. Configuration problems involving the instrument, the network, or Connection Expert

Suggested Steps:

  1. Check the physical connection to your instrument. Ensure that your PC is connected to the LAN; that the instrument is also connected to the LAN; and that the instrument is turned on.

  2. Check the network connectivity by using a command outside of Connection Expert, such as ping <instrument_ip_address> or ping <instrument_hostname>. If this fails, the problem relates to your network or to the instrument's configuration. Consult your instrument's documentation and your IT department to resolve such problems.

  3. If the ping is successful, you may have a problem involving the configuration of the interface or instrument in Connection Expert. This procedure only applies to manually-added instruments — not auto-discovered instruments.
Refer to the Connection Expert help regarding manually adding an instrument. Open the help from IO Control.
