Contexts Window

The Contexts window provides an interface for creating and editing contexts. Contexts are configurable extensions that are designed to be reusable across compatible measurements, hardware and other VSA operations. Using contexts can greatly reduce the amount of redundancy in configuring different measurements that use a common signal. For example, the VSA software provides standard-specific measurements (e.g., 5G NR), and it also provides non-standard-specific Adjacent Channel Power (ACP Adjacent Channel Power: The power from a modulated communications channel that leaks into an adjacent channel. This leakage is usually specified as a ratio to the power in the main channel, but is sometimes an absolute power.) and Spectral Emissions Mask (SEM) measurements that still require some signal parameters to be configured for accurate measurement results. If you configure a context using the New Radio context Type, you can apply the context to your 5G NR EVM Error vector magnitude (EVM): A quality metric in digital communication systems. See the EVM metric in the Error Summary Table topic in each demodulator for more information on how EVM is calculated for that modulation format. measurement as well as your ACP and SEM measurements, and you can save the context for repeated use. The measurement the context is applied to will only use the parameters it needs.

You can also use the User Defined Preset context type to create a custom context that caches the current measurement setup for later use.

Contexts Window Parameters

Selected Context - Selects a context from the list of contexts using a drop-down menu. You can rename a selected context using the Name field to the right of this parameter. You can also click any context in the list to select it. This parameter is only visible when there is at least one context to select.

Add Context - Adds a context to the end of the list of contexts.

Clear Contexts - Removes all contexts from the list.

List of Contexts

Name - Shows and edits the context's name. You can rename a context by selecting (or double-clicking) the name and entering a new name.

Type - Selects a context type from a drop-down menu.

Choices: User Defined Preset, New Radio, WLAN

Default: User Defined Preset

Duplicate Context - Creates a duplicate of the context and adds it to the bottom of the list of contexts.

Delete Context - Deletes the context. This is different from Clear Contexts, which deletes all of the contexts from the list of contexts.

To view the .NET API 1) Access Preamble Indicator, or 2) Application Programming Interface command code associated with each VSA GUI operation (selection), open the Output Window and select the Show Code property.
