Register External Instrument

 

The Register External Instrument dialog box appears when you select the Add... button from either the External Instrument Table tab or the Assign External Instrument dialog box. 

Name

Allows you to enter a meaningful name that you can easily identify for the instrument that you are registering. The instrument name is limited to 20 characters (letters, numbers, or symbols).

Family

Selects the family type of the instrument that you are registering. The choices available are:

ESG-C for Agilent E4438C ESG signal generators (firmware version C.05.23 or later)
MXG for Agilent N5182A MXG signal generators (firmware version A.01.44 or later)
PXA for Agilent N9030A PXA signal analyzers (firmware version A.01.64 or later)
MXA for Agilent N9020A MXA signal analyzers (firmware version A.01.64 or later)
EXA for Agilent N9010A EXA signal analyzers (firmware version A.01.64 or later)
DSIM for Agilent N5102A Baseband Studio Digital Signal Interface Modules (DSIM)
8960 for Agilent 8960 Wireless Communications Test Sets (See list of supported applications)
Custom for other instruments not included in the other choices

 

VISA Interface

Defines the interface that the instrument will be using when connected. The default values are TCPIP0 (LAN connection) and GPIB0 (General Purpose Interface Bus connection). Refer to Using IO Interfaces to configure instruments to use other VISA interfaces.

Other Button

If your device will not be connected to either of the default selections, you can add one of the other selections listed in the Visa Interface selection list.

The additional selections available are:

Address

Specifies the address of the instrument. This field accepts any valid TCP/IP address or any valid GPIB address (0–30).
