Waveform Download Problems
License Errors
If you attempt to download a waveform and the waveform license is not found or is expired, an error message displays in the status bar and the status window. See Licensing for information on resolving license errors.
Download Takes a Long Time
If the signal generator connects directly to the PC using a crossover LAN cable and downloading a waveform takes a long time, or there are connection problems even if the ping command is successful, add the signal generator's IP address and hostname to the Hosts file. The Hosts file is a common way to map a hostname to an IP address. (For more information on Hosts files, go to www.microsoft.com and search on "example hosts file.")
Depending on the operating system, you will find the Hosts file in one of the following directory paths:
C:\Winnt\System32\Drivers\Etc\
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\
Procedure

In a text editor, such as Notepad, open the Hosts file. (Drag and drop the file directly into Notepad).

Write the IP address and hostname for the signal generator, and any other instruments used in the system (such as a spectrum analyzer), at the end of the file. See the example Hosts file below.

Save the file and close the text editor.
Do not use "Save As" when saving the Hosts file; this file does not have a file extension.
