Step 6 - Equipment Setup and Connection

Connect to ESG, PSG, or MXG/MXG ATE signal generators

1. Ensure the signal generator is turned off.

2. Connect the signal generator to a computer using one of the following methods for instrument control:

• LAN Network—connect both the signal generator and the computer to an external LAN network using standard LAN cables.

  Equipment Required One 10Base-T cable for the PC and one for each instrument connected to a network LAN

• Crossover LAN—connect the signal generator directly to the computer using a crossover LAN cable. (You will need to configure your PC.)

  Equipment Required One 10Base-T crossover cable for the PC If connecting more than one instrument: one 10Base-T crossover cable for the PC one 10Base-T cable for each instrument one 10Base-T hub

• GPIB—connect the signal generator directly to the computer using a GPIB cable.

  Equipment Setup

  Equipment Required GPIB cable between PC and signal generator. One of the following interfaces configured using the Agilent IO Libraries: GPIB interface card in PC Agilent 82357A USB/GPIB interface connector for USB port You can test the GPIB connections by using either the Connection Expert or the Interactive IO utility that comes with the Agilent IO Libraries. Refer to the Agilent IO Libraries Suite documentation for more information.

Connect to PXB

If you are using the PXB as the controller, proceed to Installation Step 7.

1. Ensure the PXB is turned off.

2. Connect the PXB to the computer using one of the following methods for instrument control. See the PXB's online documentation for GPIB and LAN configuration information.

   • LAN Network—connect both the PXB and the computer using standard LAN cables.

   • Crossover LAN—connect the PXB directly to the computer (You will need to configure your PC and the PXB.)

   • GPIB—connect the PXB directly to the computer using a GPIB cable.
