Review the General Troubleshooting recommendations before proceeding with this section.

When a mechanical cal kit is used for this test, the definition for that cal kit on the PNA must match the factory default standard for the cal kit. To ensure that the factory default cal kit definition is used during the test, all cal kit definitions in the PNA are reset to the factory defaults. This removes any user defined cal kit definitions. A user should save custom defined cal kit definitions before sending the PNA in for service. |
Be sure that Pause on test point fail is not selected for this test.
This troubleshooting procedure assumes the PNA successfully passes the Power Level Accuracy (Source Power Accuracy) Performance Test. When a test fails on a microwave PNA, make sure all the connectors are clean and torque all connections. Rerun the test. If an ECal module is used and the test software has problems communicating with it, see E-Cal Module Troubleshooting.
When calibrations use a sliding load, a large discontinuity (i.e. sudden step) in the Directivity at 4 GHz usually indicates an improperly connected sliding load. Rerun the test. For some PNA models, a user may or may not use sliding loads in the calibration process. When sliding loads are not used for these models, the measurement uncertainty will be approximately doubled. When measurement uncertainty is critical, sliding loads should be used.
If the Calibration Coefficients Test fails, rerun the test carefully following the prompts. Be sure to use a good through cable as a bad one may cause failures, especially in Load Match and Source Match tests.
If Transmission Tracking fails, make sure the cable used does not have unexpectedly high attenuation over the frequency range of the PNA. The test process is not able to compensate for the effects of the cable on the Transmission Tracking measurement.
The Cal Set Viewer must NOT be active when performing the test. De-activate the Cal Set Viewer via the following menu items: System > Service > Utilities, then uncheck Cal Set Viewer.
If the test still fails Transmission Tracking, Reflection Tracking or Load Match, perform the Receiver Calibration Adjustment. Any other error terms which are out of specification require the replacement of a hardware component. Refer to the appropriate PNA service guide for hardware replacement procedures.
