Region Panel (Advanced Radar)
Menu Path:
The Region panel is only available when Synchronization Domain is Phase, Frequency or Linear Chirp.
The Region panel provides inputs to configure how regions are detected. The first group of Detection parameters are specific to the selected Synchronization Domain. The Region Detection Filtering parameters are common to Phase, Frequency and Linear Chirp.
Region detection is based on the settling tolerance, as shown in the following diagram:
The Y axes can be Frequency, Frequency Slope, or Phase depending on the synchronization domain.
Phase Detection (Synchronization Domain = Phase)
-
Minimum Phase Delta for Transitions -- Specifies the minimum phase delta required for a change in phase to be considered a region transition. When Minimum Phase Delta for Transitions is enabled, you can specify the minimum phase delta, in degrees, used to consider whether a region transition is valid. Any measured region phase transition delta less than the specified value will not be considered a new region and will continue to be detected as part of the previous region. When Minimum Phase Delta for Transitions is disabled, it is not used as additional criteria for detecting valid region transitions.
Default: Disabled (unchecked)
Default value when enabled: 0 deg
-
Settling Tolerance -- Specifies the allowed tolerance for phase deviation. Phase regions exceeding this tolerance will not be detected. If Auto is checked, the VSA will automatically determine the best settling tolerance.
Default value when Auto is not selected: 4 deg
Frequency Detection (Synchronization Domain = Frequency)
-
Minimum Frequency -- Specifies the minimum frequency required for a region to be considered valid. When Minimum Frequency is enabled, you can specify the minimum frequency, in Hz, to be considered valid for the purpose of automatic region detection. Any measured region frequency less than the specified minimum frequency value will be considered invalid, and excluded from the region analysis results. When Minimum Frequency is disabled, no minimum region frequency validation checks are applied.
Default: Disabled (unchecked)
Default value when enabled: 100 MHz Megahertz: A unit of frequency equal to one million hertz or cycles per second.
-
Maximum Frequency -- Specifies the maximum frequency allowed for a region to be considered valid. When Maximum Frequency is enabled, you can specify the maximum frequency, in Hz, to be considered valid for the purpose of automatic region detection. Any measured region frequency greater than the specified maximum frequency value will be considered invalid, and excluded from the region analysis results.
Default: Disabled (unchecked)
Default value when enabled: 100 MHz

Settling Tolerance -- Specifies the allowed tolerance for frequency deviation. Frequency regions exceeding this tolerance will not be detected. If Auto is checked, the VSA will automatically determine the best settling tolerance.
Default value when Auto is not selected: 1 MHz
Chirp Detection (Synchronization Domain = Linear Chirp)
-
Minimum Chirp Rate -- Specifies the minimum required chirp rate for a linear chirp to be detected as a region. When Minimum Chirp Rate is enabled, you can specify the minimum region chirp rate, in Hz/µs, to be considered valid for the purpose of automatic region detection. Any measured region chirp rates less than the specified minimum chirp rate value will be considered invalid, and excluded from the region analysis results. When Minimum Chirp Rate is disabled, no minimum region chirp rate validation checks are applied.
Both positive and negative chirp rate limit values are supported (a limit value of 0 Hz/µs would equate to an unmodulated CW region within the region-group pattern, positive Hz/µs values equate to increasing frequency ramp, and negative Hz/µs values equate to decreasing frequency ramp).
Default: Disabled (unchecked)
Default value when enabled: 100 MHz/µs
-
Maximum Chirp Rate -- Specifies the maximum allowed chirp rate for a linear chirp to be detected as a region. When Maximum Chirp Rate is enabled, you can specify the maximum region chirp rate, in Hz/µs, to be considered valid for the purpose of automatic region detection. Any measured region chirp rates greater than the specified maximum chirp rate value will be considered invalid, and excluded from the region analysis results.
When Maximum Chirp Rate is disabled, no maximum region chirp rate validation checks are applied.
-
Settling Tolerance -- Specifies the allowed tolerance for frequency deviation across the chirp. Chirps exceeding this tolerance will not be detected. If Auto is checked, the VSA will automatically determine the best settling tolerance.
Region Detection Filtering
-
Max Detection Count Per Pulse -- Specifies the maximum allowed regions to be detected. The detection qualification is only incorporated if the corresponding checkbox is checked.
-
Max State Count -- Specifies the maximum amount of phase transition states to be detected. This only affects how phase states are detected and not the actual detected regions.
-
Minimum Width -- Specifies the minimum required time width for a region to be detected. Any measured region time widths less than the specified value will be considered invalid and excluded from the region analysis results.
To ensure that regions of interest are detected as valid, it is important that you specify an appropriate Minimum Width value which is less than or equal to the smallest region time interval you want to include within the region analysis results.
Default value: 1 µs
-
Maximum Width -- Specifies the maximum allowed time width for a region to be detected. When Maximum Width is enabled, you can specify the maximum region time width, in seconds, to be considered valid for the purpose of Automatic region detection. Any measured region time widths greater than the specified value will be considered invalid and excluded from the region analysis results.
When Max Region Time Length is disabled, no maximum region time width validation checks are applied.
Default: Disabled (unchecked)
Default value when enabled: 10 µs
