About Keysight N6841A with 89600 VSA Software

The Keysight 89600 VSA software supports the Keysight N6841A RF Radio Frequency: A generic term for radio-based technologies, operating between the Low Frequency range (30k Hz) and the Extra High Frequency range (300 GHz). Sensor.

Start the 89600 VSA software, and configure the N6841A with the following procedure:

  1. Click Utilities > Hardware > Instrument Manager.

  2. Click the "Add new instrument" button to open the Add/Edit New Instrument Address dialog box.

Click Custom LAN Local Area Network: A communications network that serves users within a local geographical area, typically over distances of around 100m. Wireless LANs use wireless communicaitons to network devices so there is no need for data cabling. and select N6841A from the Custom Model drop-down menu.

Enter the Hostname or IP Internet Protocol: A set of instructions defining how information is handled as it travels between systems across the Internet. Address of the sensor and an optional Name, and click OK.

The new N6841A instrument address should appear in the Instrument Manager list.
On the Instrument Manager tab, click the "Rediscover Instruments" button so the VSA software discovers the new N6841A.

  3. Click Utilities > Hardware > Configurations.

  4. Click the "Add new configuration" button to open the New Hardware Configuration dialog box.
Select Keysight N6841A RF Sensor from the list of Possible Logical Instruments and click the > button to add the N6841A to the Configuration box.

If the N6841A is not in the Possible Logical Instruments list, the 89600 VSA was unable to connect to the N6841A. Click Cancel to close the New Hardware Configuration dialog, verify the N6841A is connected and powered on, and then click the "Rediscover Instruments" button.

You can also use the Connection Expert application (part of Keysight I/O Libraries) to verify the connection to the N6841A.

  5. If there is more than one N6841A, select the specific N6841A to be used for this configuration in step 2 of the New Hardware Configuration dialog box.
  6. Name the configuration. Click OK.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Select this Analyzer Configuration as Current Analyzer Configuration in the Configurations tab.

See N6841A Setup for information on measurement parameters for 89600 software with an N6841A as an RF front end.

Display Limits for N6841A Hardware

The N6841A is tunable from 20 MHz Megahertz: A unit of frequency equal to one million hertz or cycles per second. to 6 GHz Gigahertz: A frequency measurement which equals one billion hertz.. The input range can be adjusted from -42 dBm deciBels referenced to a milliWatt: dB relative to 1 milliwatt dissipated in the nominal input impedance of the analyzer to +20 dBm. The maximum information bandwidth is 20 MHz.
