Phase Error (W-CDMA(3GPP)/HSPA)

Phase error (Phase Err) is the difference, in phase, between the I/Q reference signal and the I/Q measured signal for the specified Code Channel and Spread Code Length.

The magnitude of this parameter is an indicator of the quality of the phase component of the modulated signal. For example, a very high phase error might indicate high incidental FM Frequency Modulation modulation on the signal.

The display shows these Phase error values; the RMS (root mean square) Phase Error, the Peak (largest) Phase Error, and the symbol number with the Peak Phase Error.

The description of Digital Demod Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) includes a pictorial diagram that shows how Phase Error is derived.
