Paging Parameters

Last updated: 2014-11-28

Description

This setting determines whether the UE is paged using its IMSI or a TMSI (see Test Set-Originated Connection) for CS domain service. If you wish to page the UE using a TMSI, the test set must first assign a TMSI to the UE during registration (TMSI Assignment must be set to On when the UE registers with the test set). The TMSI used to page the UE is determined by the TMSI setting.

This parameter can only be set when call status is Idle.

GPIB Command: CALL:PAGing:IDENtity[:TYPE]

If you know the UE's International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI), you can enter it under Paging IMSI and proceed directly to originating a call even if the UE has not registered. Otherwise, you must wait for the UE to report its IMSI value upon registering with the test set.

GPIB Command: CALL:PAGing:IMSI[:SELected]

This setting determines whether the test set assigns a TMSI to the UE during the Location Update Procedure. If TMSI Assignment is set to On, when the UE registers with the test set, the test set assigns the UE a TMSI in the Location Update Accept message. The TMSI assigned to the UE is determined by the TMSI setting.

You must set TMSI Assignment to On before the UE registers in order for a TMSI to be assigned.

If you do not plan to page the UE using a TMSI, it is recommended that you leave TMSI Assignment set to Off so that the Location Update procedure executes as quickly as possible .

This parameter can only be set when call status is Idle.

GPIB Command: CALL[:CELL]:TMSI:ASSignment

TMSI (Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity) is a 32 bit number, but 3GPP TS 23.003 2.4 indicates "The network shall not allocate a TMSI with all 32 bits equal to 1 (this is because the TMSI must be stored in the SIM, and the SIM uses 4 octets with all bits equal to 1 to indicate that no valid TMSI is available)." Thus, TMSI may be set to any value between 0 and 4294967294.

When TMSI Assignment is set to On , this setting determines the TMSI that is assigned to the UE during the Location Update Procedure.

When CS Paging Identity Type is set to TMSI, this setting determines the TMSI that is used to page the UE (see Test Set-Originated Connection).

This parameter can only be set when call status is Idle .
