PUCCH allocations (LTE)

The following steps are for configuring a PUCCH Physical Uplink Control Channel channel allocation for the currently selected user mapping. There are two sections in this topic, one for configuring PUCCH for resource block autodetection, and one for manually defining PUCCH resource block allocations.

To set up a user mapping, see the Uplink user allocations topic.

For more information about the parameters listed in the procedure below, see the LTE Allocation Editor topic.

Configuring PUCCH for resource block autodetection

  1. Select the PUCCH tab

  2. Configure PUCCH parameter auto-calculation

    1. Select Auto-calculate

    2. Set NRB(2)

    3. Set NCS(1)

    4. Set nPUCCH(2)

    5. Set DshiftPUCCH

To specify uniform PUCCH parameters, clear the Auto-calculate parameter. Certain Per-slot Parameters will need to be set (in step 5).

  3. Select Auto-detect Format/nPUCCH(1) to enable autodetection of PUCCH format and nPUCCH(1) for PUCCH allocations.

  4. Configure sync slot

Skip to the next step if you have chosen a different signal than PUCCH DMRS for synchronization. The demodulator will ignore the sync slot parameters for channels/signals that are not selected for synchronization.

Select Auto Sync to automatically find a sync slot in the frame. Note: PUCCH Auto Sync may increase measurement time noticeably.

To specify the sync slot manually, clear Auto Sync and specify the index of the sync slot using the Sync Slot parameter.

There must be a unique slot in the Measurement Interval for the frame boundary to be detected correctly. This unique slot can be defined for PUSCH Physical Uplink Shared Channel, PUCCH, or SRS Signaling Reference Signal. The Sync Type parameter determines which channel's sync slot is used for frame boundary calculations.

A slot is unique when the combination of Per-slot parameters (except Power (dB) or DMRS Power (dB)) are different from all other slot allocation's Per-slot Parameters.

  5. Configure Per-slot Parameters

    1. Set the following parameters for the sync slot when the Auto-calculate parameter is cleared

      • First RB - resource block location of PUCCH in first slot of a subframe

      • Cyclic Shift - PUCCH cyclic shift

      • OS - orthogonal sequence index

      • DMRS Group (u) - DMRS group

Cyclic Shift, OS, and DMRS Group (u) apply to all PUCCH subframe allocations autodetected in the Measurement Interval. PUCCH allocations that have different settings for these three parameters will not be autodetected.

    2. Set PUCCH Format for the sync slot.

When Auto-detect Format/nPUCCH(1) is cleared, this setting applies to all PUCCH subframe allocations and PUCCH allocations with other formats will not be autodetected.

    3. Set PUSCH channel power (Power (dB))

This parameter is expressed relative to the 0 dB point determined by the signal selected for synchronization.

    4. Set DMRS power (DMRS Power (dB))

This parameter is expressed relative to the 0 dB point determined by the signal selected for synchronization.

    5. When Auto-calculate is selected, set resources used for PUCCH formats 1/1a/1b (nPUCCH(1)) for the sync slot.

When Auto-detect Format/nPUCCH(1) is cleared, the setting for nPUCCH(1) applies to all PUCCH subframe allocations and PUCCH allocations with other nPUCCH(1) settings will not be autodetected.

  6. Return to Uplink user allocations and configure other channels and signals.

Manually defining PUCCH resource block allocations

  1. Select the PUCCH tab

  2. Add PUCCH subframe allocations

Use the Add, Delete, Subframe Up, and Subframe Down buttons to add a subframe allocation for each PUCCH subframe defined for the currently selected user.

  3. Configure PUCCH parameter auto-calculation

    1. Select Auto-calculate

    2. Set NRB(2)

    3. Set NCS(1)

    4. Set nPUCCH(2)

    5. Set DshiftPUCCH

To specify uniform sync slot parameters manually, clear the Auto-calculate parameter. Certain Per-slot Parameters will need to be set manually (in the next step).

Cyclic Shift, OS, and DMRS Group (u) apply to all PUCCH subframe allocations found in the Measurement Interval. PUCCH allocations that have different settings for these three parameters will not be autodetected.

  4. Configure Per-slot Parameters

These parameters are coupled across all subframes by default. To set these parameters for each subframe allocation individually, clear the Couple check box next to the parameter.

    1. Set the following parameters for each allocation when the Auto-calculate parameter is cleared

      • First RB - resource block location of PUCCH in first slot of subframe

      • Cyclic Shift - PUCCH cyclic shift

      • OS - orthogonal sequence index

      • DMRS Group (u) - DMRS group

    2. Set the resource block location of PUCCH in first slot of subframe (First RB)

You can interact with the allocations in the RB Mapping grid below by clicking on them. Clicking selects an allocation. Dragging will reposition an allocation.

    3. Set PUCCH format (Format)

    4. Set PUSCH channel power (Power (dB))

    5. Set DMRS Power (dB)

    6. Set resources used for PUCCH formats 1/1a/1b (nPUCCH(1))
  5. Configure sync slot

Select Auto Sync to automatically determine the sync slot. The demodulator will choose a unique slot from the slot allocations. When there is more than one unique slot defined, the demodulator will use the one with the highest correlation.

To manually specify which slot to use as the sync slot, clear Auto Sync and set the Sync Slot index.

  6. Return to Uplink user allocations and configure other channels and signals.
