Edge to Edge

Edge to Edge measures the time between two edges on different signals or on the same signal.

An annotation label is placed at the time of the first edge and at the time of the second edge, and the time is displayed.

The measurement can be performed on any waveform displayed in a Waveform content window.

PAM Compatibility. Because this measurement is based on waveform top and base levels and the passing of the waveform's edge through lower, middle, and upper thresholds, the measurement is not designed for PAM signals. However, the measurement may be able to be made on PAM signals if the waveform top and base definitions are manually set. This can be attempted using the Thresholds tab of the Configure Measurements dialog box. The measurement must be made using the same top and base.

Perform Edge to Edge on single-valued waveforms only.

Configurable Measurement Parameters

This measurement is affected by the following settings (choose Measure > Thresholds...):

To measure

  1. Click the toolbar's Time tab.
  2. If necessary, click the toolbar's More buttons to locate the Edge to Edge button, and click it.
  3. Select the signals on which to make the measurement.
  4. Select the Region in which to make the measurement:

    • Displayed Waveform — is what you see in the waveform window (which can be a zoomed-in view of the complete waveform).
    • Entire Waveform — specifies the complete waveform.
    • Region N — If regions are enabled for the selected signals, you can select one of those regions.

  5. Select the Edge to Edge Mode, that is, whether to look for Previous or Next edges.
  6. Enter the Stride, that is, the Nth occurrence of the specified second edge.
  7. Select the Source 1 and Source 2 Edge Directions (rising, falling, or both rising and falling) and Thresholds (upper, middle, or lower).
  8. Select Apply.
