Troubleshooting Baseband Studio Problems

Unexpected results during playback from hard disk drive/array (HDD)

FPGA error message while using the hardware trigger

Unexpected output at the N5102A interface module during digital playback

Running multiple instances of the waveform capture and playback software

Cannot load a Quick Setup for Capture when running multiple instances of the software

Software appears to hang at "Capture Finished" message when re-playing waveform

During playback from hard disk drive/array (HDD), the user experiences unexpected results:

Cause: Your PC workstation may not have sufficient performance bandwidth to support the specified sample rate and/or duration.  To successfully stream (play) waveform data directly from HDD, the host PC must have the hardware and system capacity to transfer data from the HDD to the PCI card, uninterrupted and for a sustainable duration, at the specified rate.

Solution: Make sure your PC is capable of transferring data to the N5101A PCI card at the desired rate and duration and that the N5101A PCI card has Option 022 (2GB DRAM) installed.  Make sure that there are no other programs or background applications running during playback. Refer to the Technical Overview for recommended system configuration details. Also, see Recommended PC configuration for HDD playback for a PC setup example.

When the user tries to use the hardware trigger, the following warning message appears:

”The FPGA code in your N5102A is out of date. Hardware triggering of the N5102A is disabled.”

Cause: Your N5102A Digital Signal Interface Module has old SSIO code that does not support hardware triggering with the N5101A PCI card and the N5110B software.

Solution: Update the SSIO code using the N5102A SSIO FPGA upgrade procedure.

During digital playback, the user sees unexpected output at the N5102A interface module.

Cause: Most likely, the Clock Rate setting was changed during playback or the Clock Rate setting does not match the supplied external or device clock signal.

Solution:

If the Clock Rate setting was changed during playback:

  1. Stop playback.

  2. Save the current configuration as a Quick Setup.

  3. Recall the Quick Setup by double-clicking it.

  4. Set the new clock rate. Make sure it matches the external/device clock signal.

  5. Restart playback.

If the Clock Rate setting does not match the supplied external or device clock signal:

  1. Stop playback.

  2. Change the Clock Rate setting or external/device clock signal to match each other.

  3. Restart playback.

The user cannot perform Capture from the second instance of the waveform capture and playback software when running more than one instance at a time.

Cause: The N5110B Baseband Studio for waveform capture and playback software only allows Capture to run from the first instance of the software.

Solution: RF or Digital Playback can only be performed from the second instance. Verify you are attempting to perform a Capture from the first instance.

The user cannot load a Quick Setup for Capture when running multiple instances of the waveform capture and playback software.

Cause: The N5110B Baseband Studio for waveform capture and playback software only allows a Quick Setup for Capture to load from the first instance of the software.

Solution: Verify you are attempting to load a Quick Setup for Capture from the first instance of the software. You can only load a Quick Setup for RF or Digital Playback from the second instance of the software.

The user sees Capture Finished message when attempting playback of same waveform file on second instance of waveform capture and playback software.

Cause: The N5110B Baseband Studio for waveform and capture software does not recognize the same waveform file name for capture and playback when running dual instances of the software.

Solution: The playback file name must be changed and reloaded after each re-capture.
