Phase-Only Timing Jitter Panel
Located on Jitter mode's Meas toolbar, the Phase-Only Jitter (POJ) button turns displays the Timing Jitter panel which lists the JH4u, JHrms, and EOJ (Even-Odd Jitter) Timing Jitter measurements (NRZ or PAM4). These measurements are in support of IEEE 802.3dj. For a reference receiver, you can install a Reference Receiver signal processing operator. The operator includes Reference Receiver presets for IEEE 802.3dj Draft 2.0 and IEEE 802.3dj Draft 2.2.
The JH4u measurement measures the jitter that results from phase noise. The measurement removes the contribution of other sources of noise. Consult IEEE for the requirements for this measurement, such as the required pattern.
The JHrms measurement is similar to the JH4u measurements but expressed as the root-mean square (rms) result. Consult IEEE for the requirements for this measurement, such as the required pattern.
The EOJ (Even-Odd Jitter) measurement measures jitter resulting from changing signal level transitions that are caused by even and odd bits. This results from comparing time positions of even numbered transitions against odd numbered transitions. Consult IEEE for the requirements for this measurement, such as the required pattern.
When Phase-Only Jitter is on, the Timing Jitter panel replaces the standard Jitter panels: Jitter / Amplitude (NRZ) or Eye / Level (PAM4). No other measurements or graphs can be viewed until POJ mode is turned off.
To return to viewing the standard Jitter panels, re-click the Phase-Only Jitter button.
