Limit Testing
Limit testing allows you to stop data acquisition based on one of the following four types of events. When the specified limit conditions are met, the active tasks stop and, if defined, a reporting action is taken for each limit test.
- Acquisition Limits (number of samples, waveforms, or patterns acquired)
- Measurement Limits (measurement values inside or outside of a specified range)
- Limit-Line-Test Limits (data points in violation of user-defined line boundaries on the display)
- Mask Limits (data points in violation of display user-defined mask)
To select and configure limit testing, click Measure > Limit Tests. The following table shows the availability of each type of limit test according to instrument modes.
Type of Limit Test | Instrument Mode | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
Oscilloscope | Eye/Mask | TDR/TDT | Jitter | |

You can run one or more limit tests at a time. As soon as the limit conditions for one of the tests is met, data acquisition and all tests stop. To reset any of the limit tests, click Clear on the menu bar or change any of the following parameters: vertical scale, offset, horizontal position, horizontal scale, trigger settings, acquisition record length, or averaging.
