86105C Optical/Electrical Module
Starting with firmware release A.06.90, 86100D Compatibility mode is no longer being actively tested and supported.
The 86105C optical/electrical module incorporates one optical and one electrical measurement channel. To protect the channel inputs, Electrostatic Discharge Information. The module provides:
- 9 GHz unfiltered optical channel bandwidth. 155.52 MBd to 11.3 GBd bandwidth depending on installed option. Calibrated at 850 nm, 1310 nm, and 1550 nm. User calibration can provide an additional user-defined wavelength for consistent accuracy at any wavelength between 750 nm and 1650 nm using an optical source and a precision optical power meter. For user calibrations from 750 nm to 1000 nm, the calibration source power must be between 175 mW and 225 mW. For user calibrations within 1000 nm to 1650 nm, the calibration source power must be between 375 mW to 425 mW.
- 12.4 GHz and 20 GHz electrical channel bandwidth
- Switchable SDH/SONET filters for transceiver compliance testing
- Compliance testing at the following symbol rates (in MBd), depending on the selected option: 155.52, 622.08, 1063, 1250, 2125, 2488, 2500, 2666, 3125, 425, 5000, 6250, 8500, 9953, 10312.5, 10518.75, 10664, 10709, 11095, or 11317.
The minimum required 86100-series firmware version for this module is A.04.10.
Option IRC
Option IRC provides optical channel System Impulse Response Correction (SIRC) measurement and data files to provide an ideal channel response. SIRC data can be applied in the System Impulse Response Correction dialog box when the 86100D is in Standard or Compatibility configuration. The SIRC correction data feature is a digital filter that is used to:
- Improve the response of module reference filters to more closely match an ideal receiver.
- Enable non-standard reference receiver rates or bandwidths.
- Increase the bandwidth of the channel by up to 50%.
- Ensures that an eye diagram will look identical between different modules.
SIRC correction data is unique to a specific 86105C's serial number. The data can be purchased with new modules or purchased separately for your existing modules. Purchasing data for an existing module requires that the module be returned to Keysight Technologies. SIRC data is downloaded from Keysight.com. To order SIRC data, contact your Keysight representative or visit http://www.keysight.com/Find/FlexDCA.

86105C Option 197
Option 197 (6.375 GHz BW) is a legacy option and is not compliant with 8x Fibre Channel.
86105C Option 197 provides an electrical hardware filter in the optical channel in order to achieve a 6.375 GHz (–3 dB electrical) bandwidth. This design is consistent with many standards that specify 75% of the signal rate as the preferred bandwidth for the 4 th order Bessel-Thomson behavior of optical reference receivers. In April 2008, the Fibre Channel workgroup T11.2 decided to require a reference receiver with 7.5 GHz bandwidth instead of 6.375 GHz. The 86105C Optical Electrical Module offers such capabilities when equipped with either Option 200 or Option 300.
To verify 8G Fibre Channel transmitter compliance (Current FC-PI-4 Requirement)
- Install an 86105C with Option 200 or Option 300 into the 86100D.
- Turn on the optical channel and open the Channel Configuration dialog.
- Select the 10.3125 GBd filter. After selecting the filter, the dialog shows the 10Gb Ethernet filter label.
This selection provides a 4 th order Bessel-Thomson transfer function that falls within the tolerance window of the 8G Fibre Channel requirements outlined in FC-PI-4.
To verify 8G Fibre Channel transmitter compliance (Early Draft FC-PI-4 Requirement)
- Install an 86105C with Option 197 into the 86100D.
- Turn on the optical channel and open the Channel Configuration dialog.
- Select the 8.5 GBd filter. After selecting the filter, the dialog shows the 8xFC filter label. Measurements can now be compared with earlier drafts of FC-PI-4.
To view and apply the correction factor
In Eye/Mask Mode, when performing extinction ratio measurements on optical channels, 86105C modules have recommended correction factors for each of the module's reference receiver filters. These factors correct for the frequency response of the filters. When you select an 86105C filter, the recommended correction factor is automatically selected for the extinction-ratio measurement.
- Click the Channel button for the optical channel. This button is located at the bottom of the display.
- In the Channel dialog, select a filter.
- Click Filter to turn the on, and then close the Channel dialog.
- Select Configure Meas in the Measure menu, to view the Configure Measure dialog.
- Click the Ext Ratio tab.
- The recommended correction factor is displayed for the Correction Factor Value.
- Click Apply Correction Factor.
