86105D Optical/Electrical Module
Starting with firmware release A.06.90, 86100D Compatibility mode is no longer being actively tested and supported.
The 86105D optical/electrical module incorporates one optical and one electrical measurement channel. For the optical channel, reference receiver filters options are available for compliance testing. The following tables show the current available filters and options. The options and filters offering is occasionally adjusted to provide the optimal combination of filters. Before ordering a new module, it is recommended that you confirm the current reference filters provided by each option.

The unfiltered optical channel bandwidth is 20 GHz (24 GHz for Option 281). The electrical channel provides both low and high bandwidth modes. In the lower bandwidth mode of 25 GHz (30 GHz for Option 281), oscilloscope noise performance is improved, while the higher bandwidth mode, 35 GHz (50 GHz for Option 281), allows greater fidelity for high-speed signals.
The integrated optical channel reduces mismatch loss variation by eliminating signal distorting cables and connectors associated with the use of external receivers in order to accurately characterize optical waveforms. The optical channel is calibrated at 850 nm, 1310 nm, and 1550 nm to provide both accurate display of the received optical waveform in optical power units and measurement of the signal's average power. In addition, the optical channel calibration can be used to provide an additional user-defined wavelength for consistent accuracy at any wavelength between 750 nm and 1650 nm using an optical source and a precision optical power meter. For user calibrations from 750 nm to 1000 nm, the calibration source power must be between 800 μW and 2000 μW. For user calibrations within 1000 nm to 1650 nm, the calibration source power must be between 500 μW to 1500 μW.
The 86105D optical channel also is calibrated reference receiver that is designed to conform to the frequency response requirements of the respective standard for transmitter compliance testing. By selecting a reference receiver filter from the channel configuration dialog, the measurement channel assumes a specified fourth-order Bessel-Thomson filtered response. The integration of the compliant response into the instrument removes the potential variability and the time wasted by manually inserting and removing the filter when alternating between high-fidelity waveform characterization and SONET/SDH compliance testing.
The module's front-panel knobs are used to adjust the vertical scale and the offset of the waveform.
The minimum required 86100-series firmware version for this module is A.08.10.
Option IRC
Option IRC provides optical channel System Impulse Response Correction (SIRC) measurement and data files to provide an ideal channel response. SIRC data can be applied in the System Impulse Response Correction dialog box when the 86100D is in Standard or Compatibility configuration. The SIRC correction data feature is a digital filter that is used to:
- Improve the response of module reference filters to more closely match an ideal receiver.
- Enable non-standard reference receiver rates or bandwidths.
- Increase the bandwidth of the channel by up to 50%.
- Ensures that an eye diagram will look identical between different modules.
SIRC correction data is unique to a specific 86105D's serial number. The data can be purchased with new modules or purchased separately for your existing modules. Purchasing data for an existing module requires that the module be returned to Keysight Technologies. SIRC data is downloaded from Keysight.com. To order SIRC data, contact your Keysight representative or visit http://www.keysight.com/Find/FlexDCA.
