There are four S-parameter memories available in the S-parameter memories dialog as shown in the following picture. S-parameter memories allow you to temporarily save and quickly view S-parameter waveforms from the following sources:

  • TDR/TDT mode's DUT-based setups
  • Touchstone 1 and Touchstone 2 files
  • Another S-parameter memory

S-parameter memory waveforms can be displayed in TDR/TDT, Eye/Mask, and Oscilloscope modes but not Jitter mode. You can also view S-parameters in memory with FlexDCA running in FlexRT.

You do not need a TDR module (N1055A or 54754A) installed in the DCA-X to view S-parameters from a memory.

In the Load Memory field, click Load to import all of the S-parameter responses from a TDR/TDT DUT setup or from one of the three other S-parameter memories. Click Load From File to import the S-parameters from a file. Click Clear to erase all content from the selected memory. To quickly erase the content of all four S-parameter memories, click the Clear All Memories button that is located at the bottom of the dialog.

When importing S-parameters from a file, the frequency spacing in the file must be uniform or the file will not be loaded into memory. The frequency spacing used can differ between imported files.

After the responses have been loaded into memory, you can select to view them in Magnitude (Freq-Mag), Phase, and Group Delay (GrpDelay) charts (waveform content windows). Each chart can display multiple S-parameters and up to four charts of each type can be displayed.

For example, to view S11 and S21 in a Phase chart click on the Phase chart shown in the dialog. (If a Phase chart is not shown in the dialog, click the New Chart button.) The Select Signals for Phase dialog appears as shown in the following picture. All of the S-parameters that are stored in the memory are shown as gray tiles. Click on S11 and S21 to select those responses for the chart. The selected tiles turn a green color indicating that they are included on the chart. Close the dialog to view the waveforms.

S-parameter memories are not affected by performing an Default Setup (File > Default Setup) or by restarting FlexDCA. However, any displayed charts will not be preserved. If you want to save your chart selections, save an Instrument Setup.
