The Jitter mode Total Interference (TI) measurement is the width of the one (or zero) level distribution at a low probability or symbol error rate (BER). TI is always measured at the same BER as the Total Jitter measurement. By default this is a BER of 1E-12 (1 x 10–12), which is a probability of occurrence of less than 1 part per trillion. You can change the BER setting to any value between 1E-1 to 1E-18 by changing the TJ/TI Measurement BER setting that is located in the Advanced Tab of the Configure Jitter Mode Measurements dialog.

The TI measurement result is reported for both One and Zero levels. You can change the parameters for making this measurement on the Amplitude Measurements tab of the Configure Jitter Measurements dialog. For example, the one/zero level definitions can be based on an average level or on minimum Consecutive Identical Digits (CID). Measurements based on CID minimize the effects of ISI on the levels. The measurement are displayed in the current vertical channel units or Unit Amplitude.

The TI measurement is derived from the Deterministic Interference (DI) and Random Noise (RN) measurements. The DI and RN values are combined according to a dual dirac model. This model is converted to a BER curve which is then evaluated at the desired BER to obtain the TI measurement.

If Advanced Eye Analysis (option 401) is installed, you can measure TI on patterns longer than PRBS16, such as PRBS31, using Advanced Eye Analysis.
